Help me pick the best For-Sale landing pages in the industry

The idea of offering advertising-free landing pages that are built for conversion and enable domain name investors to generate leads from end-users without paying a dollar in commissions has been one of the many drivers behind the success of Efty, the company I co-founded.

We are proud to host For- Sale landing pages for thousands of the world’s best domain names and send hundreds of inquiries from end user buyers all over the world to our users each month.

Great domain names deserve great landing pages.

A massive redesign of our Landing Page functionality is currently in the works and one of the many exciting new changes is that our users soon will be able to choose from a variety of different designs in our template gallery. To get a fresh perspective on design options we decided to tap into the talented design community over at 99Designs and hold a contest for at least 3 new designs (meaning we will award 3 or more winning designs).

We’ve narrowed down 100+ submissions to six designers and we love some help to decide on the very best. Head over to https://99designs.com/landing-page-design/vote-maro20 and leave your rating and comments.

Don’t forget to tell me why you like (or don’t like) the designs you’re rating! (And, yes, each will have a beautiful, mobile-friendly version.)

  1. You really need to define the goal if the landing page to get good feedback Doran. Do you want users to checkout, make an offer, submit their contacts?

I also think you should consider testing these rather than relying on votes. Maybe build the top 3 voted designs and the split test them.

Fwiw I think #60 is clean and to the point, but also think it can be improved. I really dislike designs that rely on strong background images as you get lulled into false sense of liking the design but then realise it won’t work nicely for other names, and then difficult to find other images to swap in.

Some of the others produce really horrible fixation paths in my opinion and this will lead to lower conversion.

    1. Appreciate the feedback Richard. When a domain has a BIN the goal is of course to get visitors to purchase the domain and when the domain is set to Make Offer (which makes the BIN button disappear) the goal is for visitors to make an offer or inquiry on the domain. We plan on offering several designs in our template gallery so users can test which landers work best for certain domains. We will do extensive AB testing with our own portfolios too.

  2. I think the design should be different for each of those goals. I don’t think you should show both the buy button and the form.

DNS use all domains for testing, not just their own, and I think you should consider doing the same in any tests.

I’m definitely going to put a few hundred names on your landers in the near future. Looks like you’re making some great progress on building Efty.

  3. Keep it simple. #60 meets that goal but is not perfect and maybe a bit of #81 mixed with #60 would be good. Don’t rely on background images. Blue is a good universal color to use. Most important is to make sure it looks and functions just as good in mobile. A make offer and buy now option are crucial. Having the escrow logo is also important and should be bigger in my opinion.

#160 is way to busy. #157 looks like a design from 10 years ago. The simplicity of #143 is nice. #39 reminds of Domain Name Sales pages. #125 may look better without a background image. Instead of city skyline images, maybe a blue sky image would be a nice universal image for all domains. Just a thought. If you do pick any color make sure it’s sky blue. Other shades of blue won’t work in my opinion.

Most important is to make sure it looks and functions just as good in mobile.

  4. Doron, nothing is really wrong with the current landers, but alternatives will be great, especially adding buy now options with the landers.

#143, #81 and #25 are the ones I would select. If there is going to a buy now and a make offer option on the same lander, I like the side by side profile.

People shouldnt have to scroll down or click to another page to find the contact/offer form.

  5. Hi Doron,

Some good food for thought before you decide and finalize, with a little related research, just in case it might help EFTY through the process… 🙂

  6. I don’t want a sales lander page to be a internet super marketer page. I don’t want to trick or entice people into contacting me. I just want them to know that the domain they are interested in is for sale, and give them a convenient way to contact me.

Keep it clean simple, attractive and make it as easy as possible for the people who visit the page to know that it is a DOMAIN FOR SALE page so that I don’t get a ton of false inquiries everyday.

One of my favorite features of the current lander’s is the customization and ability to add some of your own blurbs about the domain name or pitch the domain in your own style.

Whatever you do select aesthetic wise, please make sure you allow the domain seller to make his own pitch through customization of the text.

    1. Thanks for the feedback Rod. Much appreciated as always. You will remain fully in charge of creating your own pitch through customization of the text. I’m confident you will be happy with the improvements that are on their way!

  7. Putting together an A+ landing page can be tricky & requires a lot of testing.

There are so many elements that a top-notch landing page needs, and making those elements the “best” they can be often depends on what your landing page goals are.

I don’t have access to any of the stats for these pages, so I can’t tell you how well they are gonna convert visitors, leads, and customers. We can only rate but it’ll all come to testing. I hope you guys have planned to track the conversions for every landing pages.

If we can see the stats for our own landing pages that would be really really helpful. oh God I can talk all day about landing page but you guys will be bored. So yep, guys keep up the good work and l hope you focus on landing pages more than others. Nobody is offering this in the domain industry and kudos to you guys for starting to implement it.

  8. I am new in this industries, i buy some domain name and how can i set up a landing page to sell my domain?
