Funding activity was up down significantly from last week as we only saw 49 startup companies raise $98,984,510 in funding. Just over 61% of these startup companies launched with a .com address with the ccTLD claiming the second spot with 12%. The .Co extension is alive and well, making up more than 10% of this week’s list. We only have one single new extension this week which is a .Digital. We are more than 3.5 years into the new gTLD program and it’s safe to say that appetite among startups for the new extensions is pretty much non-existing.
Back to the list which is rather disappointing once again as I struggle to select three domains that are half decent. The best names are often two-keyword brandables in .com such as SafeGraph.com and MortgageHippo.com or invented names that are short, memorable and easy to pronounce such as Pangara.com. A .co or .io domain can definitely work but only if it’s really short or a nice one-word such as Task.io or Bark.co. If you are going to name your company EngageRocket you better pay up for the .com because going with a two-keyword .co domain, ie EngageRocket.co really is a big mistake in my opinion.
Here’s this weeks list:
