Newly funded startups and their (domain) names – week 39

Last week we saw 69 companies pull in a cool $223,631,300 dollars in funding. The top fund raiser is Daraz, Rocket Internet’s online shopping giant in Pakistan, Bangladesh And Myanmar which raised  a whopping $55,600,000. Over 68% of the companies on this list launched with a .com domain with the ccTLDs coming in second once again with 15%. It remains very rare to spot the new Gs on this list but we have one again this week again PowerPlay, – a company that promises to pay you to watch commercials – that uses the .Ninja extension.

Some name + domain name combos that I like on this list are from Seattle based, information security company SignalSense that uses the matching .com,  India based, online food discovery and delivery experience Inner Chef which uses and last but not least I really like ShopHero, a US startup that partners with established grocers to enable online shopping of their inventory and uses the domain name.

  1. Thanks Doron for the great list. I can see how end user thought about branding. Even .co, .in and .io used above are non generic words. So who bought the generic GTlds? Domainers?
