Last week we saw 71 newly funded startups that raised a combined $230,582,000 in funding but also faced the challenge to name and “domain” themselves. One of the things I’ve learned since I started to research and write about newly funded startups and their domain name choices at the beginning of this year is that many of the companies that gain healthy traction and go one to raise additional rounds of capital will go through a re-naming process and/or do a domain name upgrade later on. I am currently working on a post that looks into the names and domains from 130 private companies with a valuation of 1 billion dollars plus and I can already share with you that many of these so called unicorns once started with a different name or domain.
On a side note, I am looking for company that is keen to sponsor this weekly “startups and their (domain) names” series I write. This is a great opportunity for a company in the domain name or branding space to get exposure towards a very targeted audience of domain name investors as well as the many startup companies that come here to read about domain names and naming. Drop me a line if you want to chat.
Back at the list we see 64% of companies launched on .com and the ccTLDs coming in second again with 18%. Ota Expert, a startup that offers competitor-based smart-pricing technology for hotels uses the new GTLD .Expert as their domain.
Name + domain name combos that I like this week are from Singapore based public transport tickets booking service EasyBook that uses the matching .com and analytics software company RevUp Software that uses the RevUp.com.
Here’s this week’s list:
|Hixme Inc||Series A||$10,500,000||Hixme.com||.com|

Funding data is based on online reporting and DNgeek can not guarantee 100% accuracy. To compile this list we only include companies that raised a first round round of angel, seed, grant, Series A or Venture funding and exclude companies that raised private equity or series B and beyond funding rounds.
