$226,606,090 in funding was raised by 65 new startup companies last week. More than 66% of them launched with a .com domain for their address on the web followed by the ccTLDs with a solid 18% of the pie this week. We have two startups that went with a new domain extension: Dosh (which uses Dosh.Cash), a mobile app that connects directly with your banking or credit card provider when you buy from a merchant or brand and then instantly notifies you of any cash rewards coming your way and online commercial property marketplace Property.Works which I wrote more about last week.
Some domain names I like on this week include those from Habit, a data-driven personalized nutrition service which raised a whopping $32M in cash and uses the ultra premium Habit.com domain name. Based on historical screenshots it seems the domain name was owned by online pharmacy Canada Drugs at one point. A sales price has not been reported but according to NameBio.com the plural Habits.com sold for $55k in 2006 and Habitt.com fetched $12,000 last year on Sedo. I also like social network Imzy which can be found on the matching Imzy.com domain name. Last up there’s Mumbai-based TalentNext which is a verified recruitment portal for the Indian entertainment industry, connecting film and production houses to a variety of talents online. The company uses the matching TalentNext.com domain which is a nice example of a memorable two-keyword brandable
